FOR SALE: Rare Lanshire Pioneer ROCKET clock, c1950s – Mid Century/Art Deco. This large , figural rocket clock is iconic in its imagery and features an orange afterburner flicker bulb that not only propels this rocket through the imagination, but serves as a warm night light! The factory switch in the aft section turns the night light on or off with the push of a button! Mounted on a black enameled wood base, this imposing, whimsical, 15 long rocket is a heavy cast metal, (likely zinc alloy), and is polished to a high luster. Exceedingly rare today, they are so coveted by collectors, fewer than one per year show up to market, and when they do they are usually corroded, incomplete or in need of total restoration – and even those poor examples seem to garner very high prices. The electric clock the rocket leans on has a beautiful stamped, chrome foil face with latitude/longitudinal lines giving it depth like a globe. The continents are in turquoise blue and the numbers and hands are in warm, antique white. The hour and minute hands have arrow ends, and the second hand has a fantastic detail; a large, red rocket at the end that circles the globe once every minute. This clock is in just gorgeous condition, with bright, mirror like glossy finish, perfect dial, clean hands and original red second hand rocket. The clock movement was cleaned, oiled and timed and it keeps great time. The cord looks fresh, and the clock runs quietly too! The factory push-button switch that turns the night-light/flicker bulb on and off is crisp and working nicely. This large, rare, beautiful mid-century clock is sure to make a bold statement in your home. It would look fabulous with vintage tin robots or space toys around it as it evokes images of 1950s space movies like Destination Moon , or When Worlds Collide. The value of these rare Rocket clocks has been on an upward trajectory for the last couple of decades now since I first became aware of them in the mid 1990s. Fewer and fewer examples show up each year, and the prices go higher and higher. This example is investment quality. I scoured every collector book I could lay hands on but was only able to find this clock in one, Pastime; Telling the Time from 1897 to 1969 by Philip Collins. Truly rare, desirable and collectible, you may not get an opportunity like this for a very long time. Don’t miss this chance to own one of the coolest, most iconic, mid-century wonders out there, the most impressive Lanshire Pioneer Rocket clock! CONDITION: Please see photos for condition. The electric clock has been cleaned, oiled and serviced and keeps great time. The cord/plug look fresh and were likely replaced. The base, rocket and clock appear free of cracks or damage. The finish is glossy and smooth with only very minor imperfections commensurate with age. The written description in this listing is strictly my opinion, please view all photos carefully and make your own determination of condition and suitability for yourself.
